Why is the ramp closed?

Council identified significant deterioration to the steel riding surface and the plywood underneath. The riding surface was removed after the plywood was found to be wet and deteriorated, and the ramp has remained closed since.

A detailed inspection was carried out on 11 June 2026 by representatives from Council, Stantec and a specialist skate asset designer.

The good news is that the main timber support structure remains generally sound.

However, refurbishment and resurfacing are needed before the ramp can safely reopen.

What would it cost?

Council has obtained an indicative estimate from a specialist skate ramp contractor of approximately $32,000 to refurbish and resurface the ramp.

This estimate does not include potential upgrades to barriers, access stairs or platform structures, and additional defects could be identified once work begins.

Here's the important part – Council currently has no budget for this work.

That means reopening the ramp is not simply a matter of Council scheduling the repairs.

For the ramp to have a future, options could include:

• Community fundraising
• External funding and grants
• Reprioritising existing Council budgets
• Future consideration through Council's planning and budgeting processes
• A combination of community and Council efforts
