Grey Library & Community Hub interior

** ENGAGEMENT IS NOW CLOSED ** Thank you to everyone who took the time to take our survey and provide feedback. We are collating and analyzing the results and will provide the results in due course.

The Grey District is getting a new library. Our designers have worked with our funding partners to determine how big the building will be and the basic layout. Now it’s time for you to share what you think should be included in the interior and fit out.

We want your input to help us decide

  • What will the interior look like?
  • Where will we put everything?
  • What do we need more of?
  • How much space will we dedicate to books, and how much to collaboration and meetings?
  • How much of our heritage will we include?

We have a unique opportunity to design what a new facility can offer our changing community.

Modern libraries are changing; they’re more of a community hub offering a wide range of activities and experiences. They connect, strengthen, inspire, and activate their communities. This is your chance to tell us what you'd like to see included in your new library. What sort of spaces should we prioritise? What should it look and feel like? What do you want to see more of? Or less of? Tell us today.

Council set up a CCO with Development West Coast to manage the project and the library building when it’s complete. Council will continue to be responsible for all services, staff and resources housed in the library. This will be your asset and your place to meet, learn and connect.

We’ve consulted with our librarians and a range of design specialists around what libraries are used for and what we need to consider to future-proof our new community hub. We’ve had a look around at what other libraries around Aotearoa and the world are doing, and we’re confident we’ve got the direction right. You can see some of our reference documents and background research here.

Please take the time to let us know what’s really important to you.

Submissions close on 8 November so pick up a submission form or fill out the survey below today.
