2024 Resident Satisfaction Survey

The 2024 Resident Satisfaction Survey is now open.

About the Survey

The Grey District Council Resident Satisfaction Survey is conducted every year to measure public satisfaction with Council's performance, services and facilities as outlined in our Long Term Plan. It is a useful tool to help Council understand the big issues and challenges facing our communities, and gauge how well the community supports our direction and priorities, so we can plan for the future.

We include the survey results in our Annual Report performance measures for our various activities.

The survey is a great opportunity to share what's going well and the things you love about our beautiful part of the world. Lets continue to work together to create a safe and thriving community for residents and visitors.

How to take part

Completing the survey is easy. Simply click the survey at the bottom of this page.

The survey will take around 10-15 minutes to complete. Your responses are confidential and will be combined with those of other participants so you cannot be identified by Grey District Council.

Everyone who lives in the Grey District, aged 18 and over, is invited to take part (not just ratepayers).

If you have any questions or difficulties completing the survey, or needs due to a disability or language barrier please contact Marina Tomasi at marinal.tomasi@greydc.govt.nz

If you do not have access to a device, free computer/internet access and paper versions are available at the Grey District Library. Paper versions are also available at the Grey District Council reception and Westland Recreation Centre reception.

The survey will run until the required demographic groups are achieved.

Why is your participation important?

  • To measure community satisfaction with Grey District Council and its services, to inform and enhance Council performance long term.
  • To provide a measure of perception of quality of life, in line with the Community Economic Development Strategy.
  • To determine Council performance in relation to the community outcomes which form part of the Council's Long Term Community Outcomes Plan (LTCOP).
  • To gain an understanding and insight into aspects for improvement.
  • The results will be included in the Council's Annual Report performances measures for various activities, and they will also help Council to prioritise its future planning.

Some key points from the 2023 survey:

  • In 2023, 56% expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of Council in the last 12 months, which is down from 59% in 2022.
  • Satisfaction with information received from Council decreased slightly in the last 12 months, to 63% (down from 68%) while satisfaction that Council consults on important issues rose from 43% to 45% in the same period.
  • Positive reasons stated for being satisfied with the overall performance of the Council focus on the Mayor doing a good job (45%), Council's good performance overall (32%), moving forward and getting things done (29%), and standing up to the government (25%).
