Proposed Extension of Rapahoe Camping Ground Lease
The Grey District Council is proposing to extend the Rapahoe Camping Ground lease term from the standard five years (as permitted under the Right of Renewal) to 33 years.
The campground owner is seeking a longer-term lease to provide certainty before committing to significant investment and improvements at the site.
Under the Reserves Act 1977, any lease extension to 33 years requires a public consultation process.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO GRANT 33 YEAR LEASE OVER RECREATION RESERVE AT THE RAPAHOE CAMPING GROUND PURSUANT TO SECTION 54(1)(a) OF THE RESERVES ACT 1977
The land described in Schedule A of this Notice (the land) is vested in the Grey District Council as recreation reserve. Jason Miles Fletcher (the Lessee) currently leases the land for the purpose of a camping ground, the current lease is now expiring. The Lessee is seeking a new lease for the continued use of the land as a camping ground for a term of 33 years.
The Council is considering granting the appropriate lease pursuant to Section 54(1)(a) of the Reserves Act 1977. Pursuant to Sections 54(1)(a) and 119 of the Reserves Act 1977 the Council has an obligation to publicly notify its intention to grant such a lease by way of this Notice.
Submissions or objections must be received by Council by 4pm on Friday 19 September 2025
Schedule A: The reserve is legally described as Reserve 1000 (LINZ Parcel 3696802) being 0.8268 hectares more or less. The reserve’s address is 10 Hawken Street, Rapahoe.
