Let’s Bring Our Community to Life — Apply Now for the Grey District Council Community Fund! (Formally known as GDC Contestable Fund)

(In June 2025, the Grey District Council renamed the Contestable Fund, the Community-Led Vibrancy Fund. The criteria has also changed. The fund is now primarily for volunteer-run groups which are undertaking projects or events in Grey District spaces and places.)

Each year, the Grey District Council Community Fund opens its doors to support community-led projects and events that breathe life into our parks, streets, halls, and hearts. From grassroots initiatives to larger celebrations, we’re looking for ideas that connect people, spark pride, and make our district stronger, together.

Whether you’re revitalising a space, running a community-wide event, or supporting local arts, sports, play, or culture — if your project aligns with our vision of a Thriving, Connected, and Resilient Grey District, connecting to the elements listed below, We want to hear from you!


This is more than just funding. It’s your chance to be part of a growing movement to build a brighter future, guided by Council’s long-term goals and endorsed strategies — including the Grey District Economic Development Strategy, the Greymouth CBD Redevelopment Plan, and the Grey District Arts Strategy.

🔹 Most grants are under $5,000

  • Grey District Council Reception, 105 Tainui St, Greymouth. Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm
  • Greymouth Library, 18 Albert St, Greymouth. Monday to Friday 10.30am to 5pm

Either hand the completed application form into the Grey District Council Office, 105 Tainui Street, Greymouth or email it to info@greydc.govt.nz


Previous successful applicants will need to have completed the GDC Contestable Project Fund Completion Form and return which is available to download here before making another application.
